We Are Moving

This blog post is a little more personal than what I usually write. I want to share our situation with you all though because I think it’s relatable in multiple ways and it’s pertinent to what will be discussed in some upcoming blog posts.

Breaking News

We are moving! This is not a blog post I thought I would be writing, at least any time soon. In fact, I rarely write blog posts purely about what is going on in our lives as a family, but it feels important to share this part of our lives with you. I imagine there will be others who can also find value and relate to our situation. That makes this blog post all the more important and maybe can be more than simply sharing a bit into our lives.

What.. how.. what?

Pretty much my thoughts when my husband first approached me with the idea of moving. We had just finished building our home and had lived in it just short of two years when he broached the subject.

It came from a good place, but still came as a bit of a shock even though I knew he had good reasoning for bringing up the move. We have felt called to be closer to family. The move would also allow us more financial freedom and would produce a better job opportunity for my husband too.

With all the good reasons to move it still felt like a tough decision.

Everyone Has Been A Little Shocked

This whole move and the decisions that drove it all developed very quickly. Within a two week time period our lives have completely changed. Everyone we know has been a bit surprised. Afterall, we just got settled into our home that took years to build. We are currently expecting our next child too. There has not been a single person though that does not understand our reasoning. Being closer to family is incredibly understandable. I think it also makes a difference the fact that we have a toddler and another baby on the way. People can see value in the grandparents and grandchildren relationship being prioritized.

I also think that after our loss of our second child people understand our decision. We really needed our family during that time, and while they came and supported us as much as they could nothing beats living closer. It also changed our perspectives on life and our children’s lives. We want our kiddos that are still here on earth with us to soak up all the time they can with family.

What About The Pregnancy?

Speaking of the pregnancy and kids, the pregnancy has definitely added some complications and stress. Timing is a challenge. We have a few months left to go but because we don’t know how long it will take to sell our home, find a home, and get a job squared away in the city we have decided to move it’s a bit nerve-racking. I feel certain we will be in the right place when this baby comes because it’s all in God’s hands. Even still, we are moving quickly to try and do all we can to get settled in our new home before baby is here. That might only leave us around one month or so before baby arrives and we are able to get moved. While an added stressor I think trying to sell our current home now and get the ball rolling is best.

What We Will Be Leaving Behind

We had finally finished our home, and were just getting settled. The house was designed by us and everything in it was selected by us. From screws to the garbage disposal, the built-ins, the unique Victorian style fireplace in our living room, the window seats, and our wood burning stove in the dining room had all been carefully selected by us.

One of the biggest things I think I will miss is my kitchen. I love the range with the double oven, the vintage style refrigerator, and all of the storage will be greatly missed.

More than the house which at the end of the day are just things we also are leaving the close friends we have made. While I pray we can keep in touch we have a really amazing church family here. There are several families from church that we have gotten very close to who feel like family. It is tough to leave both the church and our friends and restart all over at a new church. We do feel the Lord is calling us closer to family but it still feels difficult.

Relatability

So, how can you relate to our situation of moving? I think we all have had big crossroads in our lives. Those moments where we have big decisions to make that feel overwhelming. They sometimes don’t just feel that way in the moment but the whole way through the process. We have learned that often in order to create less stress it takes extra stress to get there. Being far from family, worry over finances, and a needed profession reset are all big life stressors. Moving and all that goes with it is not easy, but it will be well worth it in the end.

The unknown is always the hardest for me personally, and I have met many others who feel the same. The timing of moving is incredibly difficult. In order to purchase a new home we need ours to sell. In order to get a new job we need a home in the area we will be living. We need an income coming in to get that home. You can see how it’s all a domino effect and we don’t have much control over any of it. We can’t will our house to sell and find the perfect home all while getting the perfect job simultaneously. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could though!?
